Google Cloud Next '19 is happening this week - a bit sooner than Next '18 (July), probably because Google has too much to talk about. The last year was crazy busy, as you know from the huge amount of changes (and this blog!).
This is your wake-up call to get busy: A lot of events will be live-streamed, so make time to watch the ones that matter to your career. Here is the full list.
Next is mind-bogglingly big. Last year, over 10.000 participants paid to the tune of $2000 to watch a mega-event in San Francisco, this year it will be even bigger. This year, 75 presentations and keynotes will be streamed live, for free, and afterwards EVERY workshop and presentation will be made available. (Last year, they put 443 sessions on YouTube that are still relevant today - here's last year's full list). So much for sleep next week.
In case you aren't sure if it is interesting or can't decide what to watch, here is my schedule:
Keynote: Google Cloud got a new CEO last year (Thomas Kurian). This will be his first public appearance and likely set the industry's tone for the next year.
Best Practices in Developing G Suite Business Apps: I'd like to improve my knowledge about helping PwC build better apps - on GCP.
Google Cloud Platform 101: I'm good with G Suite, but GCP is big and daunting. I'm learning everything I can about it, this will be a good starting point.
Bringing the power of search to every business: Cloud Search is going to be a big topic in the next year, every bit I can learn helps.
AI responsibility: Google is meeting the public debates about AI ethics head-on. It's an area of interest for me, and Google's position on this will be all over the press.
Gmail Advanced Security Features: I'm not an admin, but knowing our security features is important to what I do.
Best practices for identity and authorization: As PwC pivots toward cloud development, this is key knowledge.
From Blobs to tables, where and how to store your stuff: Key GCP knowledge for beginners like me. If you looked at the myriad of storage options GCP has, you know why!
Manage Chrome browser from the Cloud: Chrome is our de-facto operating system, and managing it will be big going forward.
Keynote: Product announcements that will keep us busy for the next year.
30 ways Sheets can help discover data insights: We can never know enough about Sheets, our most intensely used G Suite editor and gateway into GCP.
Data warehousing with BigQuery: I want to know more about data analytics. This is a piece of the puzzle.
AI Hub, the one new place for everything AI: I don't know that the AI hub is, but will after this!
Rethinking data analytics: Product announcements around data analytics. Do you work with data? Can you afford not to?
The next conversation - powering customer conversations with AI: Google will talk at length about their latest breakthroughs in understanding natural language and what that means for products. This is one of the presentations I'm most looking forward to.
Engage employees with Google+: You will hear a lot about Google+ soon - this is likely where it will start.
How to grow a spreadsheet into an application: Because haven't we all? And what better way to transition into the world of GCP?
Thank you for reading - and see you (virtually) at Next! Don't forget to save some events to your calendar. The world will be watching, and hopefully so will you. Let me know what your favourite sessions were!
