Get ready for Cloud Next '20
And SheetsCon!
And SheetsCon!
There are two events coming up in the Google world, absolutely free of charge, that you should attend.
Like last year, Google Next will happen April 6-8, so be ready to block your calendars for three days of Cloud extra-vaganza!
Also (on a much smaller scale), March 12-13 will see the world's first SheetsCon, a two-day conference about Google Sheets.
This year will be special. As you may have heard, Google is among many (if not all) major tech companies to change their conferences. In Google's case, they have cancelled all live attendances and refunded all the expensive tickets - not even speakers will come in. They have also impounded their swag. So you may go to San Francisco, but you won't find anything more googley than usual there.
That said, they (and PwC and the tech world!) are still going to have a blast with all the new announcements they have been preparing for the last 12 months! And everything will be transmitted, for free.
So here are useful infos on how to consume the avalanche that is Next.
Big parts of Next are very technical - Next is Google Cloud's conference, geared towards developers and architects and those people are technical. G Suite is a small part of Google Cloud, so it plays a small-ish part at Next. That does not mean that you have to be technical to learn something new!
When you visit Next' program, you can filter the sessions (and there are a LOT of sessions).
Category: Most sessions will be called "breakout sessions", those will be small presentations about a specific topic. There are keynote speeches called "Solution keynotes" - those are a must-see if the area interests you. Tip: The G Suite keynote is called "Helpful and Human: G Suite’s Vision for Your Future Workspace", by G Suite's new boss. You should not miss that one!
Learning level: Self explanatory. This is helpful if you want to learn about something new, like getting started with machine learning.
Track: The "area of knowledge". This has been exploding over the years. Tip: G Suite's track is called "Productivity & Collaboration".
Look at the sessions. Already available - timetables going up in the coming days. Make a list of what interests you.
Register with your PwC account and create your own time table.
Block time on your calendar!
Not all of it, because you only have one pair of eyes and there are literally dozens of events happening simultaneously.
Watch the keynotes!
Make a list of everything that interests you but that you couldn't watch yet.
Tip (from my boss): Watching it later allows you to watch it at 2.0x speed. It gets addictive.
Tip: Google will create a Youtube playlist of all available sessions, watch out for it.
SheetsCon is a new event, hosted online for free. It is an independent event and not affiliated with Google - that said, it is still making huge waves in our Google Sheets and Formulas community (one of our biggest and most active!). It has Google developers and representatives from other companies as speakers and a very interesting program. I'll attend - feel free to spread the word in your communities (on G+ or your real ones), I feel such efforts deserve support.
Big learning opportunities are coming up - I certainly hope to discuss some of the announcements and news with you! Digital upskilling is not about sitting through off-site presentations, it's digging through programs and thinking what could be useful for you and going after it. How lucky we are to have all of that good stuff brought to our virtual doorsteps. Here's to drinking from the firehose, we are about to have great weeks ahead of us! Thank you for reading!
