Good news: In the midst of the craziness, Google will pull off a Cloud Next after all. It will spread over 9 weeks and be free for everybody to attend, no need to spend thousands of dollars on tickets, airplanes and hotels. It will kick off next week and the website lets you create a playlist with all the talks, demos and sessions - so how about using some Friday downtime to get excited and plan your upskilling?
Super easy. Head over to https://cloud.withgoogle.com/next/sf and "register now". You can use any G Suite or Gmail address, it does not matter.
The entire Cloud Next site is one big filter view. The purpose is to mark content so it appears in your playlist. Some tips:
If you come from a business background, start with the "Explore" tab. Scroll down until you find the "Session packages" for your industry.
If you come from a technology background, start with the "Sessions" tab. The 9 weeks are the sprawling areas of GCP - week 2 is G Suite. Tip: The site recognizes your local area and may display different content. You may need to go to the sidebar and change your filter to "North America"(NORTHAM) so you see the original content instead of a limited number of translations.
Helpful and Human: G Suite's vision for your future Workspace. This is the G Suite keynote, which will be packed with feature and product announcements. Javier Soltero, VP of G Suite, will be joined on stage by PwC's Global Technology & Transformation Leader, Hilda Clune.
This presentation is what the tech bloggers are waiting for. This will shape collaboration technology for the year to come, beyond G Suite.
How PwC migrated 275,000+ users to G Suite. Adrienne Schutte, our Global Change Director, tells the inspiring story how PwC stopped emailing Excel files and embraced the Cloud.
If you are in IT, try to watch all of the key notes, even if you do not work primarily with G Suite or GCP. Otherwise, how about these?
Opening keynote - By Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud
Every of the 9 weeks starts with a keynote. Particularly the keynotes for Data Analytics (week 5) and Business Application Platform (week 9) should be interesting, as Google will talk about Looker and AppSheet, their newest acquisitions.
Communication in G Suite: The Future of Gmail, Chat, Meet, and More. I expect this to be a very interesting and relevant presentation, pointing to a new way of communicating in businesses.
The Future of Meetings in G Suite: Vision and Roadmap. Google will shed light on how Meet will eat what's left of the competition's lunch.
Teamwork from Anywhere: G Suite's Vision for Content Collaboration: It looks like this is where roadmaps and features around Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drive will be announced.
Not being able to attend is bittersweet. Our team had been invited to present several talks and most have been cancelled - those were big opportunities for my colleagues. At that time, it was hard to understand the dimensions the whole pandemic would have. Then again, what Google has pulled off is nothing short of amazing, as is making it free to everybody and still making it this big. Many talks are pre-recorded, professionally filmed and produced. I will surely have busy weeks ahead of me - here is to a good time and exciting announcements for all of us.
Share this with your colleagues! I never get tired of stressing that relevant digital upskilling happens in events like this and what you take away. All for free! Thank you for reading!
