Google Docs has an AI that summarizes entire documents for you, in its own words. This helps others identify what the document is about.
Try it yourself: Open the outline (View > Show outline), click the + button near Summary. It usually suggests a summary, which you can accept with tab. You can correct it or write your own. More info here.
AI also powers: Translating entire documents, completing your sentences, correcting spelling/grammar/idioms.

Before you even open Gmail, AI is fighting an anti-spam war on your behalf. Inside, its most notable AI feature is "smart compose", which offers intelligent typeahead based on your style of writing.
AI reminds you to include attachments you mentioned and making sure you are emailing the people you meant to.

When you were away for a while and need to catch up on your chat spaces, wouldn't it be good to just read summaries and dive in where needed? Chat's generative AI does just that.
It's most efficient if you check certain spaces infrequently (a good practice in itself!).
Summaries appear automatically for you.

In 2018, the boss for Google Workspace said "We are at a point in AI where 10% of your replies are machine-written, but human accepted". Since then, Prabhakar Raghavan moved up to own all of Google Search, and the fundamental work going into AI is being shared and implemented everywhere.
I expect the next couple of months to bring powerful new tools to Google Workspace. People seem ready for things like generating images for presentations (or entire presentations) and complete email responses and I'm excited for the jump from AI-generated snippets to full-text suggestions.
We have mastered collaboration - it is time for new tools that automate chores.
Today, we focussed on generative AI - there is, of course, much more that AI does for you in Google Workspace. From transcriptions, translations and closed captions in Google Meet to industry-leading security features that keep you safe, and none of that incurs additional cost.
