Some Chat Spaces would need to be open to work: Everyone should be able to join a tech support room. That is now possible: Your information reaches the right people, effortlessly.
Spaces have an access setting:
restricted is the default. The only way to become a member is if an existing member adds you.
all of <yourdomain> is new! It means everyone with the link can join.
You can change the setting when you create your Space, or via the Space's View members screen. Note that only Space Managers can change this setting.
Once enabled, there will be a command Copy link to this Space. You can send this link to people, or publish it on a website.
"Drop in" Spaces are ideal for:
Tech support
Self-help communities around specific topics
... and all other self service mechanisms that come to mind. Now, you add a link to your Space on your site - done.
Chat Spaces is becoming more social: Some of the most successful Currents communities are about pets, thunderstorms or simply what's going on.
We need human connections - and that requires no invitations.
Most important of all: the "invite only" model stifled the growth of Chat Spaces. All-hands and "ask me anything" Spaces etc. were impossible with that model. Now they are.
Opening up a Space holds entirely new possibilities for your team to engage with your colleagues and (internal) audiences. Now that you can switch Spaces back and forth - what will you do? Thank you for reading!
